A systematic review of Perinatal Antibiotic Stewardship – where we are, where to go?

A systematic review of 36 studies from 2000-2022 reveals that 33 out of 36 studies reported reduced antibiotic use during the perinatal period, suggesting potential for reducing antibiotic exposure. However, there is a lack of comprehensive AMS strategies across the entire perinatal period and in low- and middle-income countries with high maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality burdens.
